Big Ambitions is a revolutionary role-playing business sim. Starting from the bottom, you take over the city, from small businesses to huge corporations. Your goal is to become the biggest tycoon of New York.

I had the pleasure of doing Field Recording and Sound Design for this project. I was intrigued from the start, as I have always been a big fan of the realistic and minimalistic sound design in games such as The Sims – and that was just what this game needed!

The most challenging part of the project was creating an immerse big city soundscape out of a lot of smaller sound. Of course there’s the general ambience sounds, but that just the beginning. Crafting small sounds for picking up a shopping basket, sounds coming from the metro stations or the subtle hum of a fridge is what really made the world come alive.

UI sounds were also hugely important, as a lot of the game is business management done from menus. Therefore, the UI sounds had to be informative but subtle and out of the way, as the player had to focus and make the right decision for their business. If UI sounds were intrusive, this could possibly hinder their ability to make good decision by stressing them out or potentially conveying the wrong information.

All in all, the project was a huge pleasure to work on and the team was great throughout the whole development process!

I hope you enjoy the game and all the sounds that have been crafted for it!
